What cat retirement is

Not a shelter. A home.

A cat retirement facility is a lifelong home for cats whose owners can no longer keep them, or who want to be sure their cat will be cared for after they are gone. Instead of being surrendered, your cat lives out their life in a warm, safe place with people who know them, cared for as an individual.

  1. A real home

Cats have their own bedrooms plus community rooms for the social ones. Amenities are tailored to each cat, not rows of cages.

  2. Individualized care

Diet, routine, health, and personality all shape how your cat is cared for. Some owners are particular, and that is honored.

  3. Peace of mind

Through estate and heir provisions, you can arrange for your cat to be cared for even after you are gone, so they are never left without a plan.

Two programs, one mission

Retirement is the heart. Rescue is a second mission.

Retirement comes first, always. Rescue and rehoming is supported by what is available above and beyond, never at the expense of the cats already in our care.

Primary program

Cat Retirement: a home for life

A permanent, lifelong home with individualized care for cats whose owners can no longer keep them, or who want the peace of mind that their cat will be loved and cared for after they are gone.

A room of their own
Each cat has their own bedroom, plus access to community rooms for the social ones.
Individualized care
Diet, routine, health needs, and personality all shape how your cat is cared for.
Lifelong and permanent
This is a home for the rest of their life. Not a stay, and not a stop on the way to somewhere else.
A care directive
We capture your wishes for your cat, the routines, preferences, and contingencies that matter to you, so care stays true to what you want. The formal directive system is in development.
Secondary program

Rescue & Rehoming

Beyond retirement, Karma's Kitties takes on feline rescue, medical, and farm-cat rehoming and adoption, supported by estate and heir arrangements and funded by what is available above and beyond the retirement mission.

Rescue
Taking in cats in need when we have the capacity to do it well, never more than we can care for properly.
Medical cases
Cats with medical needs that benefit from a dedicated, attentive environment get the care they require.
Farm-cat rehoming
Working and outdoor cats who need the right kind of placement, matched to the right kind of home.
Adoption
When a cat can thrive in a new family home, we support that transition carefully and honestly.

How it works

From first hello to a home for life

  1. Reach out

Tell us about your cat and your situation with a simple, private intake conversation. No commitment.

  2. We talk it through

We learn your cat: their personality, health, diet, and the little routines that make them who they are, and what you are hoping for.

  3. A room of their own

Your cat settles into their own bedroom and the community rooms, with care tailored to them and the comforts of a real home.

  4. Care for life

They are cared for the rest of their life, and through estate and heir provisions, even after you are gone.

The promise

Care that outlives you

That is the heart of retirement care. You can arrange for your cat to come into our care through estate and heir provisions, so they are never left without a plan.

We are building the legal and financial structures, including trust accounts, to make that promise dependable.

In development

We are building this the right way

Honesty matters more than a tidy pitch. The facility, the intake fee, the per-cat care directive system, and our legal and financial structure are all still in development. We would rather tell you that straight than promise details we have not nailed down.

The model, not the final plan

  • Still being decided

    Intake fee

A sliding scale based on your cat's age and medical needs. Specialized care can vary widely, so we will talk through it honestly instead of posting a number we have not earned.

  • Still being decided

    The facility

We are still deciding between a new build and an existing building, and working out capacity. The model is a home with bedrooms and community rooms, not a warehouse of cages.

  • Worth knowing

    Timing

Because we are building this carefully, early conversations help. If you are thinking ahead, the best time to start the conversation is before you need to.

Ways to help

Give, sponsor, or volunteer

Karma's Kitties is being built on generosity: of time, of care, and of resources. We are not taking live payments yet. Our legal and financial structure is still forming, and we want every gift to be handled properly and transparently, so we are setting that up first.

Three · opens later

Volunteer

Hands-on help with care, socialization, and the day-to-day running of the facility as it comes online.

Our story

Building a lifelong home for cats

Cats deserve a warm, safe home for the whole of their life, even when life changes for the people who love them.

Most people do not know cat retirement exists. When an owner can no longer keep their cat, because of age, illness, a move, or any of life's turns, the options have traditionally been few and hard. A shelter. A hopeful handoff. A worry that follows you for the rest of your life.

Karma's Kitties is building something different: a permanent home where a cat lives out their life with individualized care, in Citrus County, Florida. It is modeled on lifelong-care sanctuaries that have done this well for decades.

  • A home, not a shelter. Cats live in rooms, with their own bedrooms and community spaces.
  • Care tailored to each cat. We take the time to know them.
  • A promise that lasts. Through estate and heir provisions, care continues even after an owner is gone.

Good questions

The things people ask most

Cat retirement is unfamiliar to most people. Here are honest answers, including the things we are still figuring out.

What is a cat retirement facility?

A cat retirement facility is a lifelong home for cats whose owners can no longer keep them, or who want to be sure their cat will be cared for after they are gone. Your cat lives out their life in a warm, safe place with individualized attention, instead of being surrendered to a shelter.

How much does it cost?

We are still shaping the intake fee. The plan is a sliding scale based on your cat's age and medical needs, because specialized care can vary widely. We will publish specifics once the program is finalized.

Can I visit, or come visit my cat?

Visits are part of the model we are building toward, and we expect them to be by appointment. Whether the facility can be open to the general public depends on space, insurance, and liability, which are still being worked out. We will share more as that takes shape.

How do I arrange care for my cat?

It starts with a conversation, not a form to fill in and forget. You tell us about your cat and your situation, and we talk through timing, care needs, and next steps personally. Our intake inquiry opens with the full website.

What happens if I predecease my cat?

That is the heart of retirement care. You can arrange for your cat to come into our care through estate and heir provisions, so they are never left without a plan. We are building the legal and financial structures, including trust accounts, to make that promise dependable.

Do you adopt cats out?

Yes, as a secondary mission. Beyond retirement, we take on feline rescue, medical, and farm-cat rehoming and adoption when resources allow. Retirement always comes first; rehoming is supported by what is available above and beyond.

Are you a nonprofit?

Our legal and financial structure is still forming. We are setting up the trust accounts and working with the right advisors to do this properly. We will be transparent about our status as soon as it is finalized.
